Another busy week with a holiday weekend ahead! The Mayor recently emailed everyone about our colleague John Borget's cycling accident last Friday. The good news is that John is making some excellent progress and will be returning home to Provo over the weekend. The recovery will likely be slow, but it will be great to have him back in Provo, under the care of a local medical team, and starting the long road back. I know Laura and his family have appreciated all the positive thoughts and encouraging well wishes from the city team!

Next week, the Customer Service Department will get started on their move to the new city hall. This will be another significant move, and will bring a lot of our residents into the new facility. Thanks again for the support and patience of so many of our fellow employees - those in the new building and those remaining in other facilities - as we have gradually moved into our new space. We also continue to have police employees moving into their space, and Media Services new facility in the first floor of the Covey Center where dispatch used to be is coming along really well.

In Depth - the Utah Lake Commission

We wanted to mention an interesting transition that is happening right now that has some impact on our operations and interests. Earlier this year, the State Legislature created a new entity called the Utah Lake Authority, which is replacing the Utah Lake Commission that was formed back in the late 2000's. The new Authority will have legislators, state agencies and local officials on the board, and they actually have a state allocated budget to start making significant progress on better management of the Lake and the areas around it. The new Authority is having their organizing meetings this week and next, and getting started on their important work. Provo has a designated seat on the board, which is important because of our shoreline and our airport. We look forward to working collaboratively with our partners in this new approach to managing Utah Lake.

Survey: HR pros' overriding concern is culture

Building and maintaining a company culture is the largest concern of HR professionals, with almost 60% of respondents citing it as a problem in the 2022 Identity of HR survey. The survey also found that empathy from managers is important because workers "don't leave companies -- they leave managers," says Lynne Oldham, chief people officer at Stash.

The Mayor's Week

This week Mayor Kaufusi's highlight was our dispatch center going live at City Hall! It was so wonderful to finally welcome all of our dispatchers "home" at our new building! She also got to speak at a kindergarten graduation. She was able to meet with our soon-to-be new library director, and presented vouchers to those who won free Allegiant tickets on instagram or at Stadium of Fire. This weekend she is looking forward to judging a pie eating contest for the Provo Pioneer Day celebration, and wants to wish all the employees a happy Pioneer Day weekend and hopes they enjoy their time off!
